 Development Team

Arverne East, a public-private partnership led by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the Parks Department, and the Department of Transportation, is a continuation of City investment in the Rockaways stemming from actions in 2003 to facilitate development in the Arverne Urban Renewal Area.

The development team is a tri-venture of L+M Development Partners Inc., the Bluestone Organization, and Triangle Equities. All three members are full-service real estate firms working together for over 15 years and have invested in the peninsula for about a decade to provide high-quality, sustainable, and resilient affordable housing.

Community Partners

Arverne East is committed to providing sector-based vocational skills training and open pathways for job opportunities to Rockaway residents throughout the project’s duration. Accordingly, we partnered with three community-rooted workforce organizations to prepare residents for work at the project.  Working together, these community partners have formed a workforce development consortium to provide valuable training and access to jobs at Arverne East:

Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation

Church of God Christian Academy

Ocean Bay Community Development Organization

Arverne East will deliver over 60 acres of outdoor recreation space. Community members will have safe, easy access to explore open spaces and opportunities to participate in a variety of free programming offered by our community partners centered around health and wellness, sustainability, and conservation.

RISE

RISE will expand its civic engagement and youth development programs that support social equity and physical well-being through its new operating space and gardens at Arverne East. Programs will be centered in STEM  and environmental education, conservation, and discovery.  Through the operation of a compost exchange, farmers market, native plant nursery, and educational garden, local residents will be invited to actively care for their environment and community.

The Campaign Against Hunger

The Campaign Against Hunger will be a vital resource in expanding healthy food access and education to the Arverne and Edgemere communities through the operation of a 2-acre urban farm at Arverne East. The Campaign Against Hunger’s Green Teen program will provide valuable youth development and workforce training to empower disconnected local youth.  Program participants understand all aspects of the operations of The Campaign Against Hunger Agro-Ecological center, learning how to produce, promote, and incorporate locally grown nutrient-dense food to benefit the lives of fellow community members. The program and farm will improve access to nutritious foods, help eliminate hunger, and build wellness in the surrounding community.

New York City Parks

Through a partnership with NYC Parks Foundation and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, Arverne East will create new opportunities for recreation activities for the youth and families of Far Rockaway. Programming began with a summer youth golf program in 2021. Activations are planned for the beaches adjacent to the Arverne East next season, with expansive sports and wellness programming expected in the future.

FRANC
The Far Rockaway/Arverne Nonprofit Coalition comprises 21 nonprofit organizations with a mission to improve the lives of young people by strengthening Rockaway's nonprofit network. Arverne East will work with FRANC to connect local youth to programming and jobs in the development.

Rockaway Brewing

Rockaway Brewing Company (RBCo) brewery and tap house will expand with a new location in the development expected to draw patrons and visitors year-round to the project’s retail promenade. The RBCo is a well-established local craft brewery founded in Rockaway. As our anchor tenant, the brewery will attract local and seasonal retail tenants, bringing new long-term and sustainable economic development opportunities.  As founders of the Rockaway Food Initiative, the RBCo team is committed to supporting community partnerships.
